What does ADIS do?
ADIS is a 24 hour, 7 day a week confidential telephone service, offering information, advice, referral and crisis counselling for people with problems related to drugs and alcohol. ADIS has an extensive database of treatment agencies across NSW.
ADIS offers
- Information on drugs of abuse, illicit drugs, opiates, alcohol and benzodiazepines,
- Referral to appropriate services from our state-wide database
- Advice for people with problems relating to drug and alcohol
- Crisis Counselling
Our service is for drug users, their friends and family, and professionals.
Is ADIS confidential?
Yes. Callers are not identified and calls are not recorded. Like all health workers we must report any calls regarding child abuse to DOCS. As we are also obliged to report serious crimes that are reported to us. We also have a duty of care to protect callers and others from harm, for example if someone is going to commit suicide or commit violence.
Are the calls recorded?
No.
Does my number come up on the phone when I ring?
No.
What drugs can ADIS tell me about?
Illicit drugs such as heroin, cannabis, amphetamines, ecstasy, cocaine, LSD and others; opiates and opioids such as morphine, codeine, methadone and buprenorphine; steroids, benzodiazepines, and alcohol.
Can ADIS tell me about prescription drugs?
No, ADIS staff are not pharmacists or medical practitioners. Therefore if you want detailed information about prescribed medications you should contact your prescribing doctor, pharmacist, medication manufacturer or the Medicines Line, 1300 888 763.

If I talk to someone at ADIS is it kept on record?
No, we do not take your name, or any identifying information, though we may ask for your postcode, or age range for statistical purposes. You do not have to give this information if you do not wish to.
