Social Workers are available to assist patients and their families and carers with personal and practical difficulties.Social Workers are professionally trained and our aim is to offer a cost-free comprehensive service by providing professional counselling, information and links with appropriate resources. Accommodation Officer
St Vincent’s Hospital accommodation is available for country and isolated patients and their escort. You can contact the Accommodation Officer on 02 8382 2114.
Travel Assistance
If you need to travel 100kms or more for your treatment you may be entitled to some reimbursement of your travel and accommodation costs from IPTAAS (Isolated Patients Travel and Accommodation Scheme). The scheme also caters for one family member/carer if an escort is approved.
Aboriginal Liaison Officer
An Aboriginal Liaison Officer is available through the Social Work Department to cater for the particular needs of clients with an indigenous background.
Who can see a Social Worker?
Anyone who is an inpatient, a registered outpatient or a family member/carer. The Social Work Department has a commitment to providing total care to patients, families, carers and significant others.
Health care interpreters are available and can be arranged if required.

There is a social worker allocated to each clinical area within the hospital. If you would like to see a social worker, please ask the nursing staff or your doctor to contact the Social Work Department.
